Neighborhood Watch Today's Tips
The Neighborhood Watch Program is a highly successful effort that has been in existence for more than thirty years in cities and counties across America. It provides a unique infrastructure that brings together local officials, law enforcement and citizens to protect our communities.

Around the country, neighbors for three decades have banded together to create Neighborhood Watch programs. They understand that the active participation of neighborhood residents is a critical element in community safety.

We will use this page to communicate questions, concerns and announcements to our neighborhood.

See You There ! !

We're Standing Watch for YOU ! !

Welcome to Heritage Lake,

I'm sure you are as proud of this Beautiful community as we are. That being said we all must strive to keep it safe and free from crime. This can be trying at times to do, considering we are a newer and nicer community in the area. This makes Heritage Lake a PRIME target for crimes of opportunity such as, open doors, unlocked cars, valubles in cars, homes left in unsecured, and garage doors left open. It is up to US, the residents here at Heritage Lake to prevent these crimes of opportunity. We can do this by keeping our Homes, Cars, and Garages Secure ! ! !

Stay Alert / Stay Alive, Come Support The Neighborhood Watch ! !

  • Volunteer Block Captians are needed.
  • These Captians need to be willing to simply Watch their area, usually defined as 5-10 homes. Ideally, all neighbors on each block should know each other well enough to know who belongs in the neighborhood and who doesn't. Each person on the block would watch out for one another.

  • What to look for?
  • Cars and people that don't seem to belong in the neighborhood, open garage doors and house doors.

  • What to Do?
  • Call the neighbor and let them know their doors are open, regardless the time. Call the Sheriff's Dispatch and inform them of suspicious cars or activities.

  • Sheriff's NON - EMERGENCY Dispatch # 800-950-2444
  • Call 911 if a crime is in progress. DO NOT confront anyone, just be security minded.

Keep in mind that Neighborhood Watch is most effective when the community stands together, watches out for each other. Just by getting to know your neighbors we can make a differance ! ! Host a block party or a game night. The more we intermingle together, the safer AND more close knit our community will be.

If you feel you want to help with the security of Your Heritage Lake please contact us.

Topics and Results Of Last Meeting

  • Questions brougt up to H.O.A. office:

  • 1- There have been alot of people around the lake with
out badges and residents have noticed the security
guard not asking for them, what is this policy.
2- Could we get a couple move Private Lake Signs to
indicate this is not a lake open for the general public.
3- Is ther an 800 # for patrol or security we can call if we
    see things of concern.
4- Are there still pool moniters, some residents have
noticed groups of 10+ people coming into the pool, as
well as some with ETOH. Do we still have moniters
    and if so when ?
5- When may we be able to address the issue of full
time security for the neighborhoods and not just piggy
    backing on the builders patrol.

  • Recent Activity And Concerns:

  • 1- Car Break Ins.
    2- Car Theft.
    3- Grafiiti.
4- Lack of patrol in the area.
5- Suspicious people going through trash.
6- Suspicious people, knocking on doors and yelling. This is just like the activities last year. If there was no answer the suspects would break-in the door and rob the house.

  • Sherrif has arrested :

  • -Supspects going through trash for identity theft.
-Suspects for sciphoning gas in cars / boats.
-Suspects in Breaking and Entering in community next to ours.

  • General Info / Discussion:

  • Sheriff office needs to be notified EVERY time we see or suspect anything.....yes anything ! ! This way they have documentation and different descriptions of possible bad guys. I know we are supposed to feel safe at home but Sadly crime is out there and the sheriff cannot always patrol the area. Right know we do not have the funds in the HOA budget for a patrol (due to a major lapse in payment of HOA dues) A patrol about $2,400 mth just for a guard not to mention the overhead, Car, Uniforms, Gas, Accessories. I am considering a fundraiser to get funds to pay at least part time patrol.

What we REALLY need to do is get the word out at to our neighbors, park in our garages if possible. I know we all have stuff that fills up the garage but we need to make the area unappealing to the bad guys this accomplished best when there is no access to the cars, if we can't park in the garage then we MUST keep any and all valuables out of the car. Nothing to be seen on the seats, dash, console, floors etc.... phones, bags, purses, loose change is still money, Ipods are perfect the burglar. ESPECIALLY KEYS and GARAGE DOOR OPENERS. These allow later access to your homes. (Check for yours). We must pay attention to these details if we are to stay ahead of them.

Also I recommend outside motion lights over the garage and the corners of the home so if we park in the driveway there is more light. There are really cool lights that stay dim all night and brighten up with movement under their sensors. Leave on porch lights at night, they can also be hooked up to your daylight sensor that operates the address light box on the house. Padlock gates and outside electrical panels. I also recommend a home alarm there are some really affordable ones out there. Lights, Locks and Alarm Signs really do make your home and property unappealing, bad guys really do not want to get seen or caught.

The fact that we are sharing this info and news with each other shows that the Neighborhood watch is working and we care, now we need to take it to the next step and keep reporting these items to the sheriff. They really do care their just understaffed, we have about 8 deputies for 800 sq miles. They do plan on hiring and expanding but it does take time.

If you have any questions or would like any advice feel free to call. I wold be more than happy to come by and inspect your home and give some pointers.

I know some of this may seem like common sense, but it never hurts to hear again from time to time. Please lets work together to get the word out there and beef up our own security and hopefully we can discourage the criminal element.

    Take Care
